Even if you put in a claim on your homeowners insurance and it does cover you, with a $500 deductible you would only be $300. It's not worth claiming.

Try to get shop to pay for your loss. If they don't then sue them in small claims court.

Don't put in a claim on your homeowners insurance. Save a claim for something big.
References :
The homeowners policy has LIMITED coverage for a boat and it's eqiupment. The way the standard policy reads, there's coverage up to $1,000 for any watercraft and equipment, while on the premises listed on the policy (at home). Unfortunately, once it's off your premises, it's not covered AT ALL, and neither is the equipment.

Hopefully, you had it insured under a boat owners policy, and the equipment as well. If not, you can always see if the boat mechanic has a marina policy that covers other people's stuff in his care, custody & control.

If not, you're uninsured. Sorry!
References :
Yes, most homeowners forms contain deductible provisions applicable to losses occurring under Section I (Section I losses include (a) dwelling, (b) appurtenant structure, (c) unscheduled personal property, and (d) additional living expenses. The type and amount of deductible varies by company. Deductible provisions do not apply to Section II losses (Section II losses include personal liability [bodily injury and property damage] and medical payments to others). Some companies offer an optional deductible applicable only to wind or hail losses. Most offer higher deductible options such as $500 or $1,000 at a reduced premium.
References :
http://www.ratedetective.com.au/insurance/life-insurance

If it was stolen from your home...maybe but it wasn't. That sucks bro. I would look into the shop being responsible. I'm no insurance agent.
