I’m looking into buying Renters Insurance for my apartment. I’m never bought renters Insurance before. What should I look for to be included? Tips, tricks pointers?

Take a few online quotes and after a while it’ll all start to make sense.

Renter’s insurance is pretty much the same, no matter what company you go through. The differences are how much coverage you choose to buy. Sit down and think how much it would cost to replace everything you have, if your home caught on fire. Buy that much for contents insurance and buy a lot of liability insurance, like $300,000. It’s cheap and well worth it. Make sure you pay extra for "Replacement Value." Otherwise, if you file a claim, you will only get what the item cost minus depreciation. With replacement value, you would get how much it costs to replace that item today.

Go talk to your local agent. It’s very personalized coverage.

Some of the endorsements I strongly recommend, are replacement cost coverage, and backup of sewers & drains (if you’re ground floor or have basement storage).

You also probably want to get a quote first, from the company that has your car insurance. The discount on the car insurance, could MORE than pay for renters insurance.
